Abstract
This review explores the environmental and
economic perspectives of using paddy straw as a sustainable raw material for
paper manufacturing, emphasizing its role in addressing residue management and
reducing dependence on wood-based pulp. An extensive review of secondary data
and recent literature was conducted to assess technological, environmental, and
economic feasibility. Paddy straw offers considerable potential as a non-wood
fibrous raw material, contributing to emission reduction, resource circularity,
and forest conservation. However, economic viability depends on logistics,
processing technology, and policy support. The integration of paddy straw into
paper manufacturing represents a promising approach toward achieving
sustainable industrial practices, reducing stubble burning, lowering carbon
footprints, and promoting a circular bioeconomy.
